Seismic Monitoring

The Romanian Seismic Network includes 73 digital seismic stations with 499 channels at 100 sps/channel installedĀ  between 1995-present.The seismic stations are equipped with Q330 and K2 digitizers, accelerometer sensors (EpiSensor, 2g full scale) and velocity sensors (broadband and short period). Most stations are located in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians and are primarily designed to survey the Vrancea seismic region, at the Carpathians Arc Bend.

The communication from digital seismic stations to the National Data Center in Bucharest is achieved by 5 providers (GPRS, VPN, satellite communication, radio lease line and internet), which assure the back-up communication lines.

The continuos digital data of the seismic stations are analyzed in real time by an automated system for data acquisition and processing Antelope. The Antelope system performs real-time event detection, discrimination between local and teleseismic events, automatic P and S waves picking, location and magnitude determination for local events and teleseismic.

Analyst revised bulletins are distributed to the international data centers on a regular basis (monthly), and inĀ  few hours after the occurrence of a local event with a magnitude larger than 3.5 Richter.

The Romanian Seismic Network distributes its results (locations and phase data), by Internet, to several seismological services in Europe:
